Spider-Man, Spider-Man, Remastered for the PS5.
It turns out that the Spider-Man Mile Morales trailer that was revealed at last night’s PS5 event isn’t actually a sequel, and is more or less a remaster featuring numerous enhancements with the character and what looks like his own storyline, Miles Morales being the expansion part of the game’s arrival on the next-generation console.
As VGC reports, Simon Rutter, Sony’s EVP head of European business spoke to the Telegraph in an article that’s behind a paywall clarified that the Marvel’s Spider-Man game trailer that was shown last night and featured the character, Miles Morales, is not a sequel.
“I guess you could call it an expansion and an enhancement to the previous game,” he says, explaining that the expansion element of the game would be the introduction of Miles Morales. He explains how the rest of the game has been given major enhancements, “but also within the game as well there have been major enhancements to the game and the game engine, obviously deploying some of the major PlayStation 5 technology and features.” Some of the features revealed for the PS5 were reiterated during the stream last night, such as 3D audio, ray tracing, and more.
When Rutter was asked if familiarity was an important part of transitioning an installed user base from old machines to new, his response was, “I think what is very interesting for everyone to see is how familiar games might be to some degree changed through the workings of PlayStation 5.”
The announcement trailer that you can find above, shows off a CGI trailer ending with the reveal of Miles Morales’ character. Marvel’s Spider-Man was launched on PS4 back in 2018 and has sold incredibly well. The Miles Morales expansion…remaster….thing will be out later this year for PS5.
For the time being, you can pick Marvel’s Spider-Man up on PS4, however it’s unclear if the Miles Morales content will be available for the PS4 or not.
