Criterion making the next Need for Speed game.
The next Need for Speed game is in the works at Criterion, EA has announced.
The Guildford studio is perhaps best known for creating the much-loved Burnout series, although in recent years it’s worked on everything from Need for Speed games to Star Wars and Battlefront.
Meanwhile, 2019’s Need for Speed Heat, which was developed by Gothenburg-based Ghost Games, is getting crossplay. Crossplay launches on Tuesday 9th June, making Need for Speed Heat the first EA title to offer the feature. Once you’ve installed the update, you can opt-in to race players across PC via Origin and Steam, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This is the final update for Need for Speed Heat, EA signalled.
Criterion boss Matt Webster penned a blog post to announce the development.
“As we at Criterion shift gears into the future with full focus on developing the next Need for Speed game, this will be the final update for Need for Speed Heat,” Webster said.
“Since the launch of Need for Speed Heat and as players continue to tear it up in Palm City, we’re listening to what you love about this experience, and what you all believe could be even better. With these insights, we have a terrific foundation to create the most expressive, most socially connected, action-packed game yet for Need for Speed fans and beyond.”
Need for Speed Heat joins EA Access and Origin Access Basic Vault on 16th June. It launched on Steam last week.
