Sony giving away and extra free game plus more to celebrate PlayStation Plus’ tenth anniversary.
It’s that time of the month again when Sony announces their monthly PlayStation Plus games, however this time it’s a little different. In the blog post announcing the games, Sony thanks fans for the fact their support as PlayStation Plus turns ten today. The post details the usual two games included with PlayStation Plus in addition to a third as a tenth birthday gift to fans. Alongside this, Sony is offering a couple of other little extras to help thank fans.
The post starts by saying “Hi everyone! Wow, it’s been 10 years since PlayStation Plus was first introduced to the world on June 29, 2010, and we truly want to thank all of you for supporting PS Plus over the past decade. It’s been a memorable journey over the years, bringing gamers together and providing access to compelling content and exclusive discounts for our members.”

The games, which are available for PS Plus members between July 7 until August 3 are as follows; NBA 2K20, the most recent entry into 2K’s yearly sports franchise and Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20th Year Celebration which includes the original, critically-acclaimed Rise of the Tomb Raider plus a host of additional content including extra story missions. The bonus game this month is Erica which Sony describes as a “feature-length cinematic experience [that] merges high-fidelity Hollywood production values with engaging, tactile gameplay.”
Sony is also offering a free time-limited PS4 theme which is due out later this week to celebrate 10 years of PlayStation Plus and a free PlayStation Plus trial weekend designed to give those who haven’t had the opportunity to use the service or to those who have let it lapse.
It’s great to see how far PlayStation Plus has come and it will be interesting to see how the service evolves as we approach the next generation.
