We also get a screenshot of the biggest mystery in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart – a new, nameless female Lombax
We all knew that the next generation of gaming consoles would bring some spectacular looking titles, but I don’t think anyone expected what Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart looks like. With its reveal yesterday, we already know that Ratchet and Clank’s latest adventure will take them between worlds and even into new dimensions and that the game looks great all at the same time. But, just to push that point forward a bit, here are some screenshots from Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart that developer Insomniac released last night.
These four screenshots put the game’s two Lombax characters in the forefront. Of course, a majority of them show Ratchet in an action sequence or just looking like the space-faring hero he is. But the odd one out shows the character revealed at the end of yesterday’s trailer – a nameless female Lombax. If you’re not on the up and up with your Ratchet & Clank lore, Lombaxes are an extremely rare race of creatures to come across, having been nearly exterminated by the Blarg.
I do have one crackpot theory, but it relates to some of the older games. In 2007’s Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Ratchet learns that a large population of Lombaxes escaped extinction by fleeing to a new dimension using a Dimensionator. After seeing the focus that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has put on teleporting through rifts to different dimensions, it seems pretty likely to me that this female Lombax could be one of many in a new Lombax-ruled dimension.
Answers to those questions are going to have to wait until we actually get the game in our hands though. Until then, if you’re looking for more Ratchet & Clank you can check out a 4K version of the trailer down below.
