Rogue One’s Gary Whitta Announces He’s Leading a Team of Writers for Project Athia

Following the reveal of Square-Enix’s Project Athia, writer Gary Whitta announced that he’s lead a team of writers to help create the game’s universe.

In a post on his Twitter account, writer Gary Whitta announced he’s lead a team of writers for the upcoming Project Athia for the PlayStation 5.

Really proud to reveal that I led a crack team of A-list writers from the worlds of film, tv, games, and fantasy literature who helped create this immense new universe for @SquareEnix,” says Whitta. “Can’t wait for you to see and learn more. Stay tuned.”

In addition to writing films like Star Wars: Rogue One and The Book of Eli, Whitta has also contributed to games like Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead and 2006’s Prey.

Project Athia was one of many games shown off during PlayStation’s Future of Gaming showcase yesterday. Not much is known about the game, but the announcement trailer showed off beautifully detailed worlds that we’ll explore once the game launches.

Project Athia is the culmination of our philosophy here at Luminous Productions to create completely new and fresh gaming experiences that fuse together the latest technologies with art,” says Takeshi Aramaki, Director of Project Athia on the PlayStation Blog. “With PS5, our vision truly comes to life, and with Project Athia players can look forward to being transported to a vast and detailed world filled with beauty and dismay.”

In addition to Project Athia, major titles like Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Resident Evil VIII: Village, and Horizon: Forbidden West were announced. We also got a look at what the PlayStation 5 looks like alongside some accessories it’ll launch with.

Currently, no release date or official name is known for Project Athia. Whenever it does come out, it’ll launch on the PlayStation 5. If you’re interested in checking it out, you can watch the announcement trailer below.
