Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World: The Prophecy of the Throne story and gameplay details
The Prophecy of the Throne takes place one month after protagonist Subaru arrived in a new world. An emissary from the royal castle suddenly appears with news that the royal selection has been postponed, with no explanation. This event was supposed to select the next ruler of the Kingom of Lugunica. Subaru and his friends thus return to the royal capital. There, the Dragon Stone prophesizes there are only five candidates to the throne, and yet six of them have gathered.
This means one candidate is supposed to be an imposter, and Subaru’s companion Emilia is the prime suspect. Subaru and friends end up tangled in a struggle for the throne filled with assassinations, betrayals and conspiracies. Hence the Japanese title of the game, Itsuwari no Ousen Kouhou, the false royal candidate.
Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World: The Prophecy of the Throne follows an original story supervised by original author Tappei Nagatsuki. The light novel’s illustrator, is also handling the game’s designs, including brand new original characters yet to be revealed.
Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World: The Prophecy of the Throne is described as a single player Tactical Adventure game. The battles use a Tactical RPG inspired battle system. Outside battle, you control Subaru, move on from one location to another, and chat with the characters. It’s a typical ADV, or what most people would call a visual novel. While it wasn’t officially confirmed, I bet there definitely will be different story routes where you can make Subaru end up with Emilia, Rem, Ram, or other girls.
Day One Edition and Limited Collector’s Edition Details:
The Day One edition will include: 4 exclusive, limited run only original pins in a display box, featuring Emilia, Subaru, Rem, and a brand-new character. These are exclusive to physical copies of the game and will not be reprinted.
The Collector Limited Edition will include: the same pins as in the Day One edition, a full-color art book including concept art, sketches, and commentary with a special foreword from the creators, a SteelBook collector’s display case, an OST CD containing original music from the game, and the Collector’s Edition outerbox.

More details will be coming at a later date via the Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World: The Prophecy of the Throne official site.
As a reminder, Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World: The Prophecy of the Throne, is the second Re:Zero game adaptation. The first one was Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu -Death or Kiss-, released exclusively in Japan on March 30, 2017, on PS4 and PS Vita. It was developed by 5pb. Games.
Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World is initially a web novel written by Tappei Nagatsuki and published on the website Shōsetsuka ni Narō from 2012. A light novel version illustrated by Shinichirō Ōtsuka started in 2014, published by Media Factory (Kadokawa).
The novel got multiple anime adaptations, which made the series extremely popular worldwide and one of the most popular franchises part of the Isekai trend: the web novels where a protagonist gets transported to another world. Personally speaking, I consider “Isekai” as a trend rather than a genre, as stories with characters getting transported to another world were always popular in Japanese popculture. As such, I wouldn’t consider series like Escaflowne to be an Isekai, as Isekai stories all follow similar story and character patterns like using RPG menus. With that said, Re:Zero is reputed for being different than others.
A new Re:Zero anime season is scheduled to start in July 2020.
Would be great if the KonoSuba RPG got localized as well.
