The Last of Us Part II has again shown more signs that it will be quite a juggernaut in terms of sales when it arrives later this month.
It should come as no surprise whatsoever that The Last of Us Part II is set to be a major success for Sony considering how well the first game in the franchise did. That being said, all indications that we’ve seen regarding Naughty Dog’s latest game have shown that the title might do even better than initially expected. Now, we have more new information to verify this.
According to IGN Brazil, pre-orders for The Last of Us Part II have surpassed those of God of War (2018) in the region to become the highest-selling PlayStation exclusive ever prior to release. These totals are only indicative in the region of Brazil, of course, but considering how large the country is, it sets a good precedent for the rest of the world. Within Brazil specifically, special edition versions of The Last of Us Part II are also said to be sold out entirely right now.
Sony’s Jim Ryan also recently indicated that pre-orders for The Last of Us Part II were quite strong only a few days back as well. According to Ryan, TLOU2 pre-orders in Europe have topped those for Marvel’s Spider-Man in the region compared to when it arrived in 2018. When seeing just how well Spider-Man sold, with 13 million copies having shipped to date, this again seems to point to the fact that the Naughty Dog-developed sequel is set to perform quite strongly.
Despite large portions of The Last of Us Part II having already leaked, it doesn’t seem to be a hindrance so far when it comes to potential sales for the PS4-exclusive. This obviously remains to be seen, but to hear that the game is already tracking quite well in multiple regions around the world says a lot for its prospects at the market.
The Last of Us Part II will arrive exclusively on PS4 two weeks from today on June 19, 2020.
