Resident Evil 8 has officially been revealed at Sony’s PS5 event, marking the next terrifying chapter of Capcom’s horror franchise.
After a long wait, Sony finally gave us the information that we’ve been waiting for on the upcoming PS5. With the system planned to arrive later this year, Sony gave us a preview of the titles that we can expect to see coming to the PS5, including several first-party exclusives and third-party titles. One of the biggest among them was the surprise reveal of Resident Evil VIII: Village, which will bring the long-running franchise to PS5 next year.
During Sony’s PS5 reveal event, Capcom officially revealed Resident Evil 8: Village, which is coming in 2021 and will seemingly continue from where we left off in the story in Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. This would mark the third consecutive Resident Evil game release from Capcom in the past few years after the release of the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
The reveal trailer was brief, but it seemed to give us a sense of the tone and style that Resident Evil 8 is aiming for, along with some radical departures from the series’ past. The trailer confirmed that the next RE installment will be in first-person (like Resident Evil 7), while also showing some of the environments and setting, which seems to be in a European village. Ethan, the protagonist from RE7, also was confirmed to be returning for RE8.
The trailer also highlighted that werewolves will seemingly be the focus of this installment compared to the series’ traditional zombies, while also teasing that Chris Redfield will make his return in this chapter of the series. However, it seems like he might not be on your side.
Resident Evil 8 is officially confirmed in development for PS5 and expected to arrive sometime in 2021. Stay tuned for more information on the game as it develops.
