The virtual First Person Marketing Simulator has been incredibly popular since it was announced.
It’s safe to say that Devolver Digital is one of the more interesting publishers in the business. That was cemented by another insane Devolver Direct this past weekend that gave us details about Carrion and its release date, a new Serious Sam 4 trailer, and Devolverland Expo.
In case you missed it, Devolverland Expo is a “first-person ‘marketing simulator’ set within an abandoned convention center after the annual Devolver Digital game expo was mysteriously canceled,” which is published by Devolver Digital. The “experience,” which is free to download on Steam, hit over 500,000 downloads this weekend alone, the publisher confirmed on Twitter.
Over 500,000 people snagged their free ticket for Devolverland Expo on @Steam this weekend!

Devolverland Expo was the final announcement from this weekend’s Devolver Direct and couldn’t have been revealed in more of a Devolver way. Nina Struthers appears on screen insulting viewers before announcing the “first ever playable video game experience, that takes all of the in your face stink and discomfort, pomp and circumstance of a high rent crowded convention hall packed full off all of us assholes, and packs it all up into what we all really should be interested in, an actual playable video game.”
The game is developed by Flying Wild Hog and is an incredibly effective and not so subtle piece of marketing from the publisher. Devolverland Expo has “trailers, gameplay demo videos, and other secrets lost in the expo’s cancellation” scattered throughout the show floor. The virtual expo includes many of the games that were shown during the Devolver Direct including Flying Wild Hog’s Shadow Warrior 3, Carrion, and Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, which recently had an interesting pre-order bonus announced.
