Disintegration is Free to Play This Weekend, Just Enough Time to Try The Multiplayer

Anyone can try out Disintegration from July 30 to August 2, all for the low low cost of nothing

Disintegration, the game that merges FPS and RTS into one genre, is going free to play this weekend, from July 30 to August 2.

Potential players can get their first taste of Disintegration on PC, PS4 or Xbox One. If its unique blend of genres isn’t enough to interest you, maybe its pedigree is. The team behind Disintegration, V1 Interactive, is spearheaded by Marcus Lehto, the former creative director of the Halo franchise. Alongside Lehto is Mike Gutmann, a former director for SOCOMM.

Our preview of the game’s story found it to be full of heart, although, after review, we found that the true star of Disintegration is its unique multiplayer system. Despite that, the game has had a rough go at it so far. Steam charts show that Disintegration‘s player count has been slowly decreasing over the past month. That may be why after releasing June 16, the game is already trying to bring more players in with a free weekend.

According to an announcement for the trial weekend on the game’s site, work has continued to give Disintegration a more user-friendly multiplayer experience. Besides some much-needed balancing changes between its multiplayer classes, Disintegration has also made sure players can now back-fill into a game, meaning no more games where you’re down a teammate. V1 Interactive has also improved how grav-cycles, the game’s hovering, heavily armed motorbikes handle, to become more responsive and less sluggish.

If you do end up trying out Disintegration for free this weekend and fall in love with the FPS/RTS experience, you’ll also have a great opportunity to pick it up for good. Across all platforms, the game will be slashing 40 percent off its price tag. On Xbox one, this sale is running from July 28 to August 3, Steam has it from July 30 to August 6 and PS4 will discount the title from July 22 to August 8.
