Two reliable Xbox insiders confirmed that Fable is not an MMO RPG, but Playground Games is yet to react to the rumors.
Following yesterday’s announcement from Microsoft, which officially confirmed the existence of a new Fable entry in Xbox Series X’s line-up, some rumors started to spread on the web indicating that the game will be an MMO, unlike its predecessors. While the developers at Playground Games haven’t reacted to the rumors yet, some reliable Xbox insiders marked them as fake news.
Jez Cordon, one of the senior writers at Windows Central, and Klobrille, a well-known Xbox insider on Twitter and ResetEra, both have already confirmed that Fable will be an action RPG fame with some limited online elements for co-operative gameplay, without any MMO features.

Fable is an open-world Action-RPG. People really need to stop with this MMO nonsense. Even if there potentially will be online interactions similar to FH4, it’s not an MMO.

Revealed with a brief cinematic teaser trailer at the end of yesterday’s Xbox Games Showcase, Fable is possibly a soft reboot of the franchise that will be delivered by the creators of the Forza Horizon series. This is the first time that Playground Games works on an RPG title, but the team’s portfolio is strong enough that fans have no worries about their new project.
Most of the new announcements in Microsoft’s latest online event are still years away from their release dates and Fable doesn’t seem to be an exception. Although Playground Games hasn’t launched anything since 2018, their upcoming project seems to be big enough to take them a few years more to deliver it.
Fable series was about to get another sequel earlier this generation, but the closure of Lionhead Studios, the original developer behind the franchise, end up in cancellation of Fable Legends. It’s yet to be seen if the Playground Games would attempt to inspire from the concepts of Legends or they’d rather working on their own new story.
Next-gen Fable will be available for Xbox Series X and PC whenever it launches. There’s been no word on an Xbox One version of the game so far.
