Marvel’s Avengers will be playable in beta form starting next month, with PS4 players that preorder getting first access to the game’s beta.
As one of the most anticipated releases for this year, Marvel’s Avengers is arriving this fall and aiming to bring the spectacle and action that we’ve come to know from Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to life. While the upcoming title was originally planned to release this spring, Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix pushed the game to this fall to allow for some additional development time and polish. Thankfully, ahead of its September debut on consoles and PC, you’ll get to see some more footage from the game in a few weeks and try it out for yourself next month.
IGN has revealed that Marvel’s Avengers will go into beta in August, allowing the chance to try out the game before its fall launch. The rollout of the beta will begin with exclusive access for those that preorder the game on PS4 starting August 7, followed by Xbox One and PC preorders a week later on August 14. After that, the game will enter open beta for PS4 owners on August 14, and then for Xbox One and PC players on August 21. According to the game’s creative director Shaun Escayg, the beta will feature “a little bit of everything” and allow players to try out some of the story campaign, co-op missions, hero progression, War Zone, and content from a new feature called Drop Zones, which will be highlighted in the near future.
In addition to the beta dates, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics also revealed that a second War Table stream for Marvel’s Avengers will take place on July 29, 2020 at 10am PT/1pm ET, which is two weeks from today. As with the first War Table stream last month, the development team behind Marvel’s Avengers will give us a fresh look at the title with new gameplay footage and other details revealed. In the last stream we got a more extensive look at the game’s campaign, some of the cosmetics and upgrades you can unlock for the Avengers, how co-op works, and more, so hopefully the next War Table stream will offer some new details for the anticipated Marvel game.
Recently it was confirmed that while Marvel’s Avengers will arrive on schedule this fall for consoles, Google Stadia, and PC, Square and Crystal Dynamics confirmed that the game will also be coming to next-generation consoles when the PS5 and Xbox One arrive later this year. While no specific release date has been given just yet for the next-gen versions of the game, Square did confirm that players who purchase the PS4 or Xbox One versions of Marvel’s Avengers will be able to upgrade to their equivalent next-gen versions for free once the PS5 and Xbox Series X are released.
Marvel’s Avengers will release for PS4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and PC on September 4, 2020, and will also be arriving for PS5 and Xbox Series X sometime later this year.
