SAO Alicization Lycoris has some FPS issues scheduled to be fixed soon alongside multiple other improvements in an update late July.
Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris Producer Yousuke Futami announced the game will be receiving multiple fixes in late July, most notably the FPS, as in frame rate, will be improved. This announcement came around during the final stream for the release of Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris in Japan, on July 9, held by Bandai Namco and Dengeki Online.
During the stream, starting the 1:10:00 mark linked above, Producer Futami listed multiple changes coming to the game. He stressed out that while all this is scheduled to come in an update in “2 weeks”, with Covid-19 and everything, he can’t give us an actual date yet and things might be delayed slightly. Everything will be happening via a free update, needless to say. We’re not at that level of Capitalism yet.
During the stream, Producer Futami also mentioned multiple changes and content that will be added, most notably Raid Quests, Daily Quests, and new costumes. The camera will be improved as well. We have covered all that in a separate article coming soon.
Personally, I haven’t tried the game myself yet, but these issues must definitely be aggravating, especially when it comes from a company as big as Bandai Namco, and I’m sure everyone would be more lenient if it was Falcom. One the other side, I’m not trying to be the devil’s advocate, but it’s definitely not the first time a game launches with issues and definitely won’t be the last time. Especially when it comes to FPS drop issues, and when it comes to a Japanese game like SAO Alicization Lycoris. It’s particularly unsurprising this time with the pandemic and everything. I think what’s most important to focus on is how Producer Futami and the staff acknowledged these problems. I’ve seen him directly apology to many Japanese players on Twitter complaining. And the fact they are trying to fix things.
