Cat Mario and Cat Peach are the latest characters to get the Amiibo treatment.
You wait for one Nintendo announcement and then hundreds come along at once. After rumblings on Twitter throughout the day, Nintendo dropped a 16-minute Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct on us, revealing tonnes of new information. We got the reveal of Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, a mixed-reality Mario Kart game. The heavily rumoured Super Mario 3D All Stars Collection was finally revealed and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury was announced for the Nintendo Switch.
Super Mario 3D World is one of the last major Wii U games to get a port to the Switch and it was confirmed to have extra content with it, in the form of Bowser’s Fury and online play. Not only that, but the official Nintendo Twitter accounts have also revealed two new Amiibo that will accompany the game when it launches next February.

The new Amiibo, Cat Mario and Cat Peach, represent the Cat Suits that first appeared in the original Wii U title. While they’re an absolute must for Amiibo collectors like myself, I’m not totally sure how I feel about the fur effect they have going on. The functionality of the two Amiibo has yet to be revealed by Nintendo.
These are the first new Amiibo Nintendo has announced since the reveal of the Super Smash Bros. series Persona 5 Joker and Dragon Quest Hero back in June.
While it’s brilliant we’re getting some more new Amiibo, I’d have loved to see some related to the Super Mario 3D All Stars collection. A low-poly Mario from Super Mario 64, a Mario with FLUDD from Super Mario Sunshine and a Mario with Luma from Super Mario Galaxy. A man can only dream.
