And shares brief update on “culture transformation”.
As part of its latest earning report, released earlier today, Ubisoft has announced delays for Far Cry 6 and Rainbow 6 Quarantine, as well as offering a brief update on its attempts at “culture transformation”, following a number of damning reports this summer.
Starting with the delays, Far Cry 6, which is set to shift the series’ first-person open-world formula to the Caribbean, was originally set to launch on 18th February next year, while Rainbow 6 Quarantine had only ever been given a vague “2020” release window.
However, as outlined in Ubisoft’s first-half 2020-21 earnings statement, the company has made the decision to postpone the launch of both titles in order to “to leverage their full potential in the context of production challenges caused by COVID-19”. As a result, Far Cry 6 and Rainbow Six Quarantine will now release in the publisher’s next financial year, meaning a new launch window somewhere between April 2021 and the end of March 2022.
Expanding on that initial announcement in a follow-up statement posted to Twitter, the Far Cry team told fans, “While we know you are all anxious to get your hands on Far Cry 6, we want to let you know that we’ve been given more time to allow us to make this the game you aspire to play while focusing on the well-being of our teams in this unprecedented global context.”
Ubisoft’s financial statement also shared a brief update on what it calls its “culture transformation” following a summer of damning reports highlighting the company’s toxic work culture, including allegations of serious sexual misconduct directed at senior staff.
Ubisoft says it has now canvassed more than 14,000 employees and, following their feedback, has begun to “put in place the actions and resources necessary to address these issues”. Compulsory anti-sexism and anti-harassment training has now been implemented – and undertaken by 75% of its teams – and the recruitment of a new VP of Global Diversity & Inclusion has been finalised, with an announcement to be made soon. Finally, a Content Review Committee has been established “to ensure that the Group’s content and product marketing is aligned with Ubisoft’s values of respect and fairness”.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot added, “While much remains to be done, our teams’ testimonies showed a deep attachment to Ubisoft and a strong desire to defend the values of respect and benevolence on which the Group was built. We are committed to making the necessary changes to create an exemplary workplace culture of which everyone at Ubisoft can be proud.”
